What’s this?

  • This is the online platform for the Geneva based studio “Tortion.ch”. I use this page so that clients all over the world can contact me for any of my services.

Ok, so who are you?

  • I’m Julien! And I’ve been working as a sound engineer for over 15 years and with plenty of artists, some of which you can see in the portfolio part of this site. I studied sound engineering in 2003 at the S.A.E. here in Geneva and have been perfecting my skills since through more classes, masterclasses and of course the work I’ve done in various studios and my own.

And what do you do?

  • People come to me for various things, but my specialty is mixing! I have sharp ears, experience, and I’m generally quite good at nailing the person’s mix by using reference tracks and unlimited revisions (yeah, you read that right, unlimited! It’s only good when you say it’s good).

What  genres do you work with?

  • Although I’ve come to work with many different genres over the years, I’ve also naturally found myself working considerably more for pop and folk music as I work with a lot of singers / songwriters and have a special kind love for processing vocals and getting all the emotions out of them! I tend to work a lot with acoustic instruments like pianos and guitars.
  • But, I’m also quite the nerd (if you know sound engineers, this shouldn’t be a surprise!), so I love working with electronic sounds too!

Right, so how does this work?

  • Well, the first step is for us to establish contact! We can chat over your favorite platform, I can call you, or we can use email, I’m quite ok with most forms of modern communications
  • Then I need to take a look at your session. You can use the contact form to upload them to me directly, or any common file transfer service like wetransfer.com, swisstransfer.com (great one for large sessions) or dropbox.com.
  • After this, I’ll send you a quote depending on the number of tracks in your song and their lengths.
  • If you’re ok with that quote, I’ll start working on your mix immediately and as I’m done with it, you can listen to them in their most beautiful form online, and when you’re happy with it, you can pay to download the file. (I use an awesome site called filepass.com made for studios, you’re gonna love it!).

Do I need to do anything special with my files?

  • When you send your files, please provide me with as many mix notes as possible regarding production, mixing effects and reference links to songs you’d like the mix to emulate. We require WAV or AIFF files (44.1, 48, 88.2 or 96KHz). These should be bounced from bar one and all be the same length and the same sample rate.
  • If your DAW has a normalise option when bouncing, please make sure it is turned off.

Ok but…

  • I’m sure I couldn’t cover every question on this page, but no worries! You can use the contact/upload form to ask me anything, I always reply!
